Macao Cultural Centre…intense, vigorous, colorful, passionate, exotic, fascinating.
-- El Pais (Spain)It was party time… the jam-packed auditorium went wild.
-- The Jerusalem PostOver the next 2½ hours, Bregovic shaped a thrillingly diverse concert program.
-- The Age (Australia)It was brimming off the stage again: a heady mix of earthiness, charisma, fun and high art.
-- The Sydney Morning HeraldWe were tossed between emotional and entertainment extremes, constantly, and at high velocity.
-- The Sydney Morning HeraldInternational sensation Goran Bregovic will be settling his Gypsy camp in town for an unforgettable concert that will turn into an intense celebration of life. No one will stand still once his Wedding & Funeral Orchestra starts playing their mix of raucous Balkan rhythms sprinkled with ethnic percussion and European classicism. The audience will not resist joining a party fuelled by the hot-blooded spirit of an immensely diverse region, enriched with cultural and traditional gems!Brimming with “verve and vigour” Bregovic’s music is deemed as “infectious and irresistible”, triggering in the audience an instinctive urge to dance and clap to the sound of southeast European traditions. Merging the mysteries of Bulgarian voices with the solemn chants of an orthodox male choir, adding the energy of an electric guitar and ethnic percussion to a string quartet, this outstanding music transformed Bregovic in a unifying symbol of ambitious musical and cultural ideas. After a brief debut as a rock star in the early 80s, Bregovic has been roaming the world for more than three decades. He has spread a unique sound, outpouring his compositions not only in numerous festivals throughout the continents but also in music for theatre productions, film soundtracks, gracing the world with over 30 albums. His songs have been recorded by iconic names of diverse musical expressions such as Cape Verde’s Diva Cesária Évora or rock legend Iggy Pop. His soundtracks have won numerous awards for films directed by fellow countryman Emir Kusturica, director of cult film Underground and Patrice Chéreau’s La Reine Margot. Amazingly, one of Bregovic’s tunes was sung by Johnny Depp in Kusturica’s Arizona Dream.Bregovic’s live debut in Macao will take the audience through a dazzling journey as the Gypsy band performs well-known film tunes and other compositions that turned his music into a melting pot of European traditions with a contemporary twist. Thrilling, gutsy and ethereal, all at the same time, this Serbian sound with multiple influences will arrive with a bang, shaking spirits and souls!Feature Artists
